Join Richard Joyce\, Congaree National Park’s Community Volunteer Ambassador\, for a leisurely bird walk around the grounds of Richland Library Ballentine. We’ll learn about resources for identifying birds\, ways of supporting urban bird diversity and balance\, how to use binoculars\, and birding by ear. We’ll hope to see and hear woodpeckers\, titmice\, mockingbirds\, nuthatches\, sparrows\, cardinals\, hawks\, and wrens. \nPlease note that this is an outdoor program. \n\nIn case of inclement weather\, this program will be canceled. Please include your email address when you register so that we can keep you up to date!\nPlease bring weather-appropriate clothing and footwear for walking on grass and potentially uneven ground. Students will also be introduced to artificial intelligence and the basics of machine learning. Hour of Code™ on-demand resources will also help nurture problem-solving skills\, logic\, creativity\, and starts a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. The following rules are\nput in place to help make league bowling run smoothly. \nLeague Name: Home School\nDivisions are Bumpers &amp; No Bumpers\nPRACTICE BEGINS AT 1:00pm\nlength: 10 minutes (scored bowling to begin afterwards)\nSCHEDULE (subject to change due to scheduled events at the bowling center)\nThe league will bowl a twelve (12) week schedule\, with a hosted special “Fun Day” at the end of each\nsession.\nThe Winter League will start on January 7th\, 2022 and end on March 25 th \, 2022. The Spring League\nwill start on April 8 th \, 2022 and end on June 24 th \, 2022. It is a celebrated culture of the descendants of enslaved Africans bought to SC\, NC\, GA\, and Florida\, from west and central Africa. \nFEATURED GUESTS\nMrs. Natalie Daise\, widely known for hosting with husband Ron\,  “Gullah Gullah Island\,” an American musical children’s television series celebrating the culture and language of enslaved Africans that was produced by and aired on Nick Jr\, Nickelodeon network. The Daises are passionate performers\, educators\, and storytellers of the preservation of the GULLAH GEECHEE culture and history.\nAunt Pearlie Sue is the creation of Anita Singleton-Prather\, a native of the Sea Islands of Beaufort\, South Carolina. Based on her grandmother\, Aunt Pearlie Sue’s character has entertained audiences with Gullah-flavored folktales for over 20 years from the schoolhouse to the White House and Africa. \nSee and experience the Black Cowboys of Rembert\, South Carolina. \n“Not many know that cattle ranching\, as lucrative frontier occupation\, first appeared in South Carolina lowcountry\, where the enslaved ancestors of the GULLAH GEECHEE people became America’s first “cowboys.” Gullah Museum\nSweetgrass basketry is recognized as the South Carolina State Handicraft. With roots from West Africa\, this skill was brought to the United States by slaves and used on plantations to winnow rice. These baskets are symbolic of the GULLAH GEECHEE culture. \nThis program is in partnership with the South Carolina Humanities Council and the Richland Library African-American History and Cultural Events Committee (AAHCE). \nRichland Library received a Growth Grant from South Carolina Humanities\, www.schumanities.org. DESCRIPTION:Girls Who Code Club\nBy It-Ology\nMondays at 4:30 pm\nFREE — Girls 6th-12th grade\nClick HERE to register \nIT-OLOGY’S GIRLS WHO CODE CLUB FOR GIRLS IN GRADES 6-12\nIT-oLogy’s Girls Who Code Club is back this fall to teach South Carolina girls in grades 6-12 how to code. The club is free to join\, and participants will meet virtually on Monday afternoons from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning on September 13\, 2021. The club will run throughout the 2021-2022 school year with the last meeting scheduled for May 30\, 2022. \n  \nGirls Who Code Club is meant for girls to join the sisterhood of supportive peers and role models and use Computer Science to change the world. The middle and high-school Clubs encourage students to impact their communities in a positive way through code. Club members will learn how to code from fun\, online tutorials and activities that will help them build animations\, games\, apps. \n  \nStudents of any coding-ability levels are encouraged to join IT-oLogy’s Girls Who Code Club. This free opportunity is open to all South Carolina girls in grades 6-12. \n
