DESCRIPTION:Colonial Congaree Fort Tour\nby 12\,000 Year Park\nSaturday\, Aug 17th @10am\nAll Ages — FREE\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City event. \nThe 12\,000 Year History Park is a unique archeological site in Cayce\, South Carolina\, where history and nature converge. Over the last 120 centuries\, the area has had an array of inhabitants\, including mammoths\, Native American tribes and Civil War soldiers. It includes earthworks from an 1865 Civil War battle. The park is full of stories and offers something for explorers of all ages. \nGuided historical walking tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. Trained by the National Park Service\, our volunteer guides will take you on a walk along this beautiful trail filled with stories of the Battle of Congaree Creek\, Fort Congaree and Native American Lifeways. There are also special events including Nature Days and Civil War Encampments. \nCurrently\, the park is collecting donations to build a state of the art visitors center. We’re having a BLAST with a pile of foam to play in at Granby Gardens Park\, 1800 12th St\, Cayce\, SC 29033. (note: GPS sometimes pulls up Grandby Park instead. Try also Cayce Town Hall at 1800 12th Street\, Cayce). \nAll ages–$6.50/participant to help cover the costs of the foam cannon (scheduled from 10:30-noon). \nBring beach balls\, pool noodles\, lawn chairs\, drinking water/snacks\, and sunscreen. Shoes and goggles are recommended. It’s free\, but please scroll down to sign up so we know to keep an eye out for you and can notify you of any changes in case of inclement weather. This Field Trip is another “Let Grow” initative to foster agency and autonomy at age-appropriate levels. \nRAIN PLAN: We’ll move to an indoor meet-up location: Richland Library Downtown (Lower Level\, Children’s/Teens Room Areas). \nHURRICANE WINDS: If School Districts have e-learning day or cancelled\, then this meet-up is cancelled. Stay safe and dry! \nSally Salamander is a walking tour of downtown Columbia featuring numbered\, bronze statues of South Carolina’s state amphibian\, the spotted salamander. The tour was presented by the Leadership Columbia class of 2009. We’ll meet-up at Columbia SC Visitors Center to get started! \nI’m Sally\, Columbia SC’s official amphibian ambassador! As you look for me around downtown\, be sure to notice the beautiful architecture and cultural icons of South Carolina’s capital city. We pride ourselves on maintaining our rich history as we build for the future. When you spot me along your journey\, feel free to pet me.
