Club members will learn how to code from fun\, online tutorials and activities that will help them build animations\, games\, apps. \n  \nStudents of any coding-ability levels are encouraged to join IT-oLogy’s Girls Who Code Club. Contact Darlene Stokes\, School Day Coordinator\, at boalivinghistory@gmail.com.\nRegister using this form: https://forms.office.com/r/X2QYH8NaLd \nThe Battle of Aiken\, past recipient of: The Governor’s Award for Best South Carolina Event and the Dr. James Butler National Award for Best Living History Program.\n\n\nSince 1995\, thousands of school children have traveled to the Battle of Aiken Park for the annual School Field Trip Day held the Friday\, after President’s Day\, each February. Students go through a living history program that makes history come alive! Over 75\,000 children have experienced the program. Today\, some of the past attendees are now parents and bring another generation of students to the program! Schools from across Georgia and South Carolina attend every year. All public schools\, private schools\, and home schools are invited to attend this event which is appropriate for all ages. The educational program is believed to be the largest attended single day field trip in the state.\nThanks to our generous sponsors\, the field trip will have no costs to schools and is free of charge to students and teachers. \n\n\nThis year’s Battle of Aiken will feature the CSS H. L. Hunley traveling exhibition featuring a full-scale replica of the world’s first successful combat submarine! Reenactors will tell the unique and tragic story of the heroic Hunley crew. The recreated submarine will be featured in an upcoming movie. This is a must-see for children! \n\n\nStudents will rotate\, at their own pace\, through different stations that bring history alive. Students will step back in time as living historians in authentic dress or uniform explain: Women’s Camp Life\, Women’s 1865 fashions\, Military uniforms\, The role of infantry\, artillery\, and calvary\, Tent & camp set up\, 1865 music\, Artillery fire demonstration\, Evolution of the musket with firing\, Military engineering and signal corps\, Blacksmithing\, Pioneer crafts\, 1865 open fire cooking.\n\n\n\n\nStudents can also see and tour: An authentic 19th century log cabin\, A recreated one room school house\, Corral with horses\, A recreated 1850 jail\, An 1865 country store\, Soldier campsites.\nAdmission: Free\nTime: Gates open at 8:30 A.M. and close at 3:00 P. M. Presentations begin at 9 A. M. There is no minimum or maximum time requirement. Most schools spend five hours at the site.\nWhen: Friday morning prior to the annual Battle of Aiken reenactment.\nFood: Students are welcome to bring box lunches. The winning artwork will become the design for our new t-shirt. \nHere is what you will need to do to participate: \n\nComplete the application using the form below.\nWe will send you our official Litter Trashes Everyone paper to use.\nYour school administration is required to judge all the participating students’ artwork and select one student to represent your school or class.\nSubmit your winning entry to PalmettoPride online or postmarked by February 28\, 2022.\n\nPalmettoPride can supply 14 X 8.5 in. sheets of paper to teachers who wish to participate once your application is received. Entries can be drawn on the sheets provided by PalmettoPride. Five (5) color maximum allowed. Scavenger hunt\, high-tech style! You do not need to be a member of the HERO Co-op to attend this activity. \nThis meet-up is at Poinsett State Park: 6660 Poinsett Park Road\, Wedgefield SC \nThis club is designed to offer social outdoor time for teens\, learning some orienteering skills while also learning about South Carolina culture/history/geography. \nMore details: all state parks will be within a two-hour drive from the Irmo area.\nStudents will take the lead on locating geocaches.\nOne smartphone needed per family.\nOrienteering videos are recommended to help with skills.\nClub open for middle and high school students only. Scavenger hunt\, high-tech style! You do not need to be a member of the HERO Co-op to attend this activity. \nThis meet-up is at Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Plantation: 181 Redcliffe Road\, Beech Island SC \nThis club is designed to offer social outdoor time for teens\, learning some orienteering skills while also learning about South Carolina culture/history/geography. \nMore details: all state parks will be within a two-hour drive from the Irmo area.\nStudents will take the lead on locating geocaches.\nOne smartphone needed per family.\nOrienteering videos are recommended to help with skills.\nClub open for middle and high school students only. DESCRIPTION:Girls Who Code Club\nBy It-Ology\nMondays at 4:30 pm\nFREE — Girls 6th-12th grade\nClick HERE to register \nIT-OLOGY’S GIRLS WHO CODE CLUB FOR GIRLS IN GRADES 6-12\nIT-oLogy’s Girls Who Code Club is back this fall to teach South Carolina girls in grades 6-12 how to code. The club is free to join\, and participants will meet virtually on Monday afternoons from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning on September 13\, 2021. The club will run throughout the 2021-2022 school year with the last meeting scheduled for May 30\, 2022. \n  \nGirls Who Code Club is meant for girls to join the sisterhood of supportive peers and role models and use Computer Science to change the world. The middle and high-school Clubs encourage students to impact their communities in a positive way through code. Club members will learn how to code from fun\, online tutorials and activities that will help them build animations\, games\, apps. \n  \nStudents of any coding-ability levels are encouraged to join IT-oLogy’s Girls Who Code Club. This free opportunity is open to all South Carolina girls in grades 6-12. \n
