These live forest hikes are an engaging way for students to learn about forestry and natural resources. The program is about 30 minutes and includes a student worksheet to be completed during the hike. Students are encouraged to ask questions. \nThe topic for this program is ECOSYSTEM INTERACTIONS\, geared for ages 9-12\nStudents will explore the piedmont habitat at Harbison State Forest and learn how biotic organisms interact within an ecosystem. Students will investigate food webs and the flow of energy through a forest ecosystem. DESCRIPTION:Revolutionary War Education Day\nBy Liberty Live\nFriday\, November 6\, 9 am-1 pm\nFREE — All Ages\nRevolutionary War Field Days Education Day on Friday\, November 6th\, at the Meeting Place\, located at 1208 Keys Lane\, Kershaw\, SC. \nOver 22 activities and demonstrations will be available for the students and parents.  Drop-in even from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm “drop-in” event.  It’s designed with flexibility in how the children spend their time at the various stations. \nIf you’d like to bring a picnic lunch\, there will be plenty of space for that.  There will be restroom facilities on site\, but no running water\, so do be aware of that.  Also\, per Covid regulations\, adults and children are asked to wear masks when social distancing cannot be achieved. \nThere will be a photographer there taking pictures to use in the future marketing of Liberty Live and Revolutionary War Field Day events.  If you prefer your children not to be in any pictures\, please let them know. \nThere is ample parking but there are no paved or gravel parking lots.  The site is a grassy farmland that sits on sand that drains very well in the event of rain. \nQuestions: Contact Kim/Cola City Homeschoolers 803-348-2419 or colacityinfo@gmail.com\nPlease pre-register so we can send you a reminder email and notify the venue of our number of participants.

DESCRIPTION:“Native American Lifeways: The Origin and History of the Congaree Indians”\nBy 12\,000 Year HIstory Park\nThursday\, Dec. 3\, 2020\, 10:00-11:30 am\nFree — All Ages\n\nClick HERE to register\nModerator: John Jameson\, 12\,000 Year History Park\, City of Cayce\nStoryline: Guest speaker Prof. Chris Judge of USC Lancaster discusses the origins and illusive identify of the Congaree Indians who once inhabited the region surrounding the 12\,000 Year History Park.\n\nBackground: In the wake of the demise of the native Province of Cofitachequi\, centered near Camden\, South Carolina\, appeared a new Native American group on the cultural landscape known from the historical record as the “Congaree.” Sometime between 1672 and 1693 the first group disappears from the landscape and the documentary record followed by the arrival of the second— the “Congaree” in 1693 to the Midlands of South Carolina. Some scholars have suggested that the Congaree descend from Cofitachequi\, some believe the remnants of Cofitachequi moved west and became the Creek of Georgia\, or the Cherokee of North Carolina\, while others including some Catawba assert Cofitachequi as Ancestral Catawban. The location of the Congaree in the late 17th and early 18th centuries spans the lower course of the Wateree from Camden to the confluence of the Wateree and Congaree Rivers and the entire course of the river named for this tribe.\n\nIn this presentation\, Professor Chris Judge explores these issues and asserts the possibility that rather than being descendants of Cofitachequi\, that maybe the Congaree descend from the population at the 16th century town at the confluence of the Wateree and Congaree Rivers known variously as either Hymahi or Guiomae visited by both Hernando DeSoto in 1540 and Juan Pardo in 1566 and 1568..\n\nZoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89174114291
