Location: 208 Claude Bundrick Rd\, Blythewood\, SC 29016\, USA \nHumongous Fungus Read Aloud & Mushroom Hunt \nJoin us Mondays in November for learning and fun with science-based activities!  Not quite animals and not quite plants\, the mysterious kingdom of fungi is full of secrets.  Let’s unearth a few of these secrets together by reading from Humongous Fungus (written by Lynne Boddy and illustrated by Wenjia Tang) and then embarking on a guided mushroom hunt.  This 30-45 minute STEAM-in-Nature activity will explore the weird and wonderful world of fungi\, and how they can be found in every ecosystem.  Led by experienced foragers and facilitators\, this activity is designed for 1st through 5th grade students and begins at 11:30 a.m.  Guardians should remain on-site and supervise their child during play and picnic times (12:15 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.).  Don’t miss out on this enriching and exciting activity. \n

DESCRIPTION:SEED STEM Festival\nby Ruth Patrick Science Education Center\nSaturday\, Oct 26th @10am\nFREE — All Ages\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City event. \nWHAT IS SEED? \n  \nThe Ruth Patrick Science Education Center at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) will host the 39th annual SEED STEM Festival\, October 26th on the university campus\, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.\nImagine getting up close with honeybees\, petting an alligator\, learning how to make a rain garden\, investigating a carnivorous plant\, driving a championship robot\, or virtually traveling through outer space.  Guests will be able to do just that at SEED. \nThe event will celebrate innovations in the areas of STEM (science\, technology\, engineering\, mathematics). Student groups\, regional corporations\, museums\, professional organizations\, government agencies\, educators\, and national labs will join forces to create and present engaging hands-on activities for guests of all ages.  \nWe plan this event each year to give young learners up close and personal interaction with real-world scientists\, engineers\, and other technical professionals. The goal is to increase awareness of the role STEM plays in society and that it can also be fun. We recognize that as a society we must continue to excite and engage families about STEM fields.  \n  \nHighlights of the 2023 38th Annual SEED STEM Festival include: \n• More than 60 hands-on exhibits and activities \n• Exhibits from the Aiken County EMS\, American Nuclear Society\, Savannah River National Lab\, SCDHEC\, USC Aiken\, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions\, Southern Nuclear\, and more \n• Demonstrations of technologies and intriguing science including robotics\, nuclear power\, flight\, biology\, chemistry\, neuroscience\, biodiversity\, and more \n  \nEvery year\, this event is presented by the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center at USC Aiken working closely with the Aiken County Public School District.  \nMore information can be found here.

DESCRIPTION:Ye Iswa & Other People of SC\nby Revolutionary War Center\nWednesday\, Nov 6th @10am\nFREE — Grades 3-12\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City event. \nOnce a month\, the Rev War Center offers a free homeschool day where small school groups can come together and experience one of the educational programs offered by the Center. A minimum of ten students will be needed to host these educational programs\, if the minimum is not met then parents will be notified a week prior that the program will be canceled. Programs are geared toward students in 3rd grade through high school. Younger students are welcome to attend and follow along\, but will need the assistance of their guardian throughout the program. \nAdults are welcome to sit in on the program\, just be aware that the focus will be on teaching the young students present. \nNovember Program: Ye Iswą and Other People of South Carolina \nFrom King Haigler to Sally New River\, the Ye Iswą or Catawba as they are referred to by the Europeans have had a long and integral part in South Carolina’s history. Scholars will learn about and discuss the Catawba from pre-colonization up through the Revolutionary War.
