DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Days: SC Native Animals\nby Revolutionary War Center\nWednesday\, Oct 2nd @10am\nGrades 3-12 — FREE\nNote: Not a Cola City event. \nOnce a month\, the Rev War Center offers a free homeschool day where small school groups can come together and experience one of the educational programs offered by the Center. A minimum of ten students will be needed to host these educational programs\, if the minimum is not met then parents will be notified a week prior that the program will be canceled. Programs are geared toward students in 3rd grade through high school. Younger students are welcome to attend and follow along\, but will need the assistance of their guardian throughout the program. \nAdults are welcome to sit in on the program\, just be aware that the focus will be on teaching the young students present. \nOctober Program: South Carolina’s Native Animals \nScholars will head outdoors to find twelve examples of diverse biosystems from South Carolina. Observing the physical attributes of the animals and the environment in which they once lived\, scholars will discuss how changes in the animals’ environment led to a response that was either a mutually beneficial relationship\,  to the species leaving the area\, or even extinction. \nRegister for your spot HERE! \n

Just show up but there is a sign up form so we can send you a reminder about the location details each week. \nThis is not just another playground meet-up group. It’s a new kind of play program. Intentionally designed to foster independence\, social development\, problem solving–for all ages (especially 8+). Examples will be shown from BJU resources. But\, you can use these strategies for any resources. \nPeggy has been involved in education for over 35 years as a homeschool mom\, classroom teacher\, substitute teacher\, tutor\, and elementary-level curriculum writer. Working with her own struggling learner at home as well as substituting in a Christian special education school led Peggy to pursue further training through a special education degree. She has the desire for every child to acquire the tools he or she needs to reach their full God-given potential. Peggy and her husband\, Arnold\, live in South Carolina. They have three grown children. Peggy is a consultant with HomeWorks by Precept and convention workshop presenter. DESCRIPTION:SEED STEM Festival\nby Ruth Patrick Science Education Center\nSaturday\, Oct 26th @10am\nFREE — All Ages\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City event. \nWHAT IS SEED? \n  \nThe Ruth Patrick Science Education Center at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) will host the 39th annual SEED STEM Festival\, October 26th on the university campus\, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.\nImagine getting up close with honeybees\, petting an alligator\, learning how to make a rain garden\, investigating a carnivorous plant\, driving a championship robot\, or virtually traveling through outer space.  Guests will be able to do just that at SEED. \nThe event will celebrate innovations in the areas of STEM (science\, technology\, engineering\, mathematics). Student groups\, regional corporations\, museums\, professional organizations\, government agencies\, educators\, and national labs will join forces to create and present engaging hands-on activities for guests of all ages.  \nWe plan this event each year to give young learners up close and personal interaction with real-world scientists\, engineers\, and other technical professionals. The goal is to increase awareness of the role STEM plays in society and that it can also be fun.
