Over the last 120 centuries\, the area has had an array of inhabitants\, including mammoths\, Native American tribes and Civil War soldiers. It includes earthworks from an 1865 Civil War battle. The park is full of stories and offers something for explorers of all ages. \nGuided historical walking tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. Trained by the National Park Service\, our volunteer guides will take you on a walk along this beautiful trail filled with stories of the Battle of Congaree Creek\, Fort Congaree and Native American Lifeways. There are also special events including Nature Days and Civil War Encampments. \nCurrently\, the park is collecting donations to build a state of the art visitors center. DESCRIPTION:Let Grow Play Club: 9 Square Meet-up\nby Cola City Homeschoolers\nTUESDAY\, June 4\, 10 am-noon\nFREE — All ages\nThis activity *IS* hosted by Cola City Homeschoolers\, but there is no sign up necessary. Just show up but there is a sign up form so we can send you a reminder about the location details each week. \nThis is not just another playground meet-up group. It’s a new kind of play program. Intentionally designed to foster independence\, social development\, problem solving–for all ages (especially 8+). Families with younger siblings are also welcome\, though. \nWe hope to see this grow and expand to more projects and activities thru the summer to develop interpersonal connections as well as personal agency. We’re switching up to Tuesdays at 10 am for June/July. \nLet Grow Play Club TUESDAY 10 am-12pm–thru June/July\nThis Week’s Location: Guignard Park\, 964 Axtell Dr\, Cayce\, SC 29033\nThere’s a small playground\, a walking trail and creek. Nice and shady–for the anticipated hotter days ahead! Note\, there’s not a bathroom access at the park\, but there is a CVS across the street/nearby. \nWe’ll be setting up 9-square in the air as a mixer/ice-breaker for adults and teens. Here’s a peek at how the game works:\n\nAlso bring Yard games\, balls/frisbies\, bubbles\, nerf blasters\, sidewalk chalk\, table games/activities. Come together with other Midlands queer youth to solve the murder and figure out if this was truly a prom to die for.\n\n\nMidlands Queer Prom aims to be an inclusive and affirming event specifically designed for LGBTQ+ youth to celebrate their identities in a safe and supportive environment. Unlike traditional proms\, which may not always cater to the diverse needs of LGBTQ+ individuals\, Midlands Queer Prom provides a space where attendees can express themselves authentically\, free from judgment or discrimination. \nThis event includes elements such as gender-neutral dress codes\, same-sex couples being welcomed and celebrated\, and a focus on LGBTQ+ artists and performers. Queer Prom is not only a celebration but also a statement of solidarity and empowerment\, fostering a sense of belonging and community among LGBTQ+ youth who may face challenges or isolation in other social settings. DESCRIPTION:Paper Making\, Berry Ink\, Quill Writing & Wax Seals\nby SC Department of Natural Resources\nSaturday\, June 29th @10am\nAll Ages — FREE\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City event. \nThis program allows kids to learn how to make paper and a quill\, and then work in pairs or small groups to make their own ink using crushed berries\, vinegar\, and salt. Following these activities\, kids use the ink and quill they have made to write their own letters or draw their own sketches. After the letters and sketches have dried\, they will learn about various ways letters were folded during the Colonial Era. Kids will then select a seal stamp and learn how to seal their letters using melting wax to take home. \nThis program is for ages 6 – 18 years old\, however\, younger children can participate. All supplies for this hands-on program are provided. The program will take place under a tent in the garden of Parker Annex Archaeology Center.
