SUMMARY:Salamander Study 2
DESCRIPTION:Salamander Study with Ranger Jay\nhosted by Cola City Homeschoolers\nThursday\, November 13 at 10 am\n$5/participant — Ages 12+\nNote: This activity is hosted by Cola City Homeschoolers. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. SCROLL DOWN to reserve your space. It is NOT a drop off event. \nRanger Jay is facilitating a nature study series for ages 12 and up to learn about Salamanders. This project revolves around this important question: How can the presence or absence of salamanders help determine the health of our forest ecosystems? \nData from this study will help the Park visitors understand the value of the salamanders as an indicator species and why our stream habitats are important. This knowledge will help Saluda Riverwalk Park Rangers care and conserve our sensitive stream habitats. \nSalamanders’ patterns of population change\, when coupled with measurements of their surroundings\, will permit the investigation of the effects of geographic location\, land management\, air quality\, vegetation\, and associations with other species on salamander population dynamics. \nStudents will engage in collecting meaningful scientific data about salamander populations. This data will be used as an indication of forest ecosystem health. The series is conducted in 4-parts\, continuing thru the seasons of the year. \nPart 1: October 16th: Learning about Saluda Riverwalk using maps\, biodiversity plots\, walking observations and journaling. Students will learn why it is important to study our indicator species such as the salamander to assess the overall health of the ecosystem. \nPart 2: November 13th: Introduction to Salamanders. Fieldwork and Data Collection. Students will collect stream data at two to three sites depending on time allowance. We will sample for water quality data such as PH\, Temp\, and turbidity. Place cover boards for future terrestrial monitoring. Visit stream sites for salamander collection and identification. \nPart 3: TBD Winter: 2nd visit for stream data collection. Check cover boards\, Check streams for salamander population changes. Develop hypothesis relating to status of salamanders. Is habitat healthy? Are there concerns? \nPart 4: TBD Spring: Last Visit for Stream data Collection. Check cover boards. Check streams for salamanders. Record data and draw initial conclusions. \nLocation: Saluda Riverwalk 650 Candi Lane\, Columbia 29210\nRestrooms and Parking Lot. Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Sunscreen and water bottles also recommended. Bring your own snacks or bag lunch to hang out on the rocks afterwards\, optional. \nLook for Angela to greet you–and Ranger Jay. Parents can chaperone to listen in on the lesson activity too. \nFamilies with younger siblings/non-participants: \n\nYou can follow along behind the ranger-led activity–to listen in. There’s a sidewalk if you have younger siblings with a stroller or wagon.\nYou can go along the walking path for your own nature explorations. Be sure to let Angela (our coordinator) know\, so you can meet back when the group activity is concluded.\n\nSign up below to reserve your space:\n\n\n \n Parent NameNote: Please include the name of the adult contact for this registration\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n EmailLook for an automated confirmation when you submit the form\n \n Mobile PhoneInclude a number just in case we need to reach you last minute.Teen/Tween Participant name and ageTeens/Tweens 12+/High school. SUMMARY:Ann Brodie’s Carolina Ballet Presents : Cinderella
DESCRIPTION:Ann Brodie’s Carolina Ballet presents their award winning production of this classic fairy tale on stage at the historic Township Auditorium. With a very Mean stepmother\, a Vain stepsister and her equally as mischievous Forward stepsister\, Cinderella is treated very poorly indeed. In the true tradition of every fairy tale\, the Fairy Godmother comes to Cinderella’s rescue and together with all the fairies of the magical kingdom ensure a happy ending as Cinderella and her Prince Charming live happily ever after. \nThis production is more than a story about footwear – it is an allegory of good triumphing over mean-spiritedness. \nCombined with the lush music of Sergei Prokofiev\, and the brilliant choreography of founding director Ann Brodie\, the Carolina Ballet Artistic Director\, Mimi Worrell\, breathes magic into this well known and beloved fairy tale. Starring internationally recognized guest artists joining Carolina Ballet’s stars of tomorrow on stage today. This is a fairy tale for all ages. \nPlease call 803-771-6303 to reserve your tickets.

SUMMARY:30 Americans Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:30 American Art Tour\nby Cola City Homeschoolers\nFriday\, December 3 @10:00 am\n$5/students; $10/adults\nCome see this popular exhibit at Columbia Art Museum\, exploring the works of 30 Americans. Space is limited! 1 hour tour followed by 1 hour studio activity to create a portrait inspired by the work of Kehinde Wiley. \nThis tour is geared for middle/high schoolers. Younger siblings may also attend with parent\, or the parent may drop off teen participant. \nLocation: Columbia Art Museum\, 1515 Main Street\, Columbia\, 29201\nCost: Ages 5 and up are $5\, adults are $10. Preschoolers are free.\nTime: Meet at the Museum at 9:45 so we can get our group organized and ready to tour\nGreeter: Kim Andrysczyk\, call or text her if you’re lost or running late: 803-307-4880 \n30 Americans features an incredible “Who’s Who” list from among the most acclaimed Black artists of the last few decades\, including Nick Cave\, Glenn Ligon\, Lorna Simpson\, Mickalene Thomas\, and Kehinde Wiley. \nThese artists explore identity\, triumph\, tragedy\, pride\, prejudice\, and wit in a provocative exhibition united by one nation and distinguished by 30 experiences. Being American is only one aspect of these artists’ identities\, and their understanding of what that means is as varied as the art on view. Their work provides a dynamic showcase of contemporary art offering an intersectional series of varying gender\, sexuality\, and class perspectives. \nThis exhibition asks viewers to consider our places in this country. What you see is both part of a national conversation and an opportunity to contemplate the issues that shape our own communities. \nTraveling throughout the United States for a decade with each museum tailoring its own selection of works\, 30 Americans has helped fuel the drive to fill historical gaps in American museum collections. \nSafety protocols for visiting the musuem: all school groups must wear masks while inside the building regardless of changes to city or county mandates.\n CLICK HERE for 30 Americans Pre-Visit Guide so you get the most out of the tour. \n\n
