DESCRIPTION:Conservation Poster Deadline\nby Richland Soil & Water Conservation\nFriday\, April 12\nFree — K-12/Richland Students\nNote: Cola City participants may enter this contest as part of our Green Steps initiatives. Contact colacityinfo@gmail.com to submit your entry under our group. It is a public event\, if you prefer to enter individually\, contact Richland County Conservation District for more details \nTheme 2024: May the Forest Be With You Always\nForests are amazing ecosystems that are home to many plants and animals. Forests purify the air we breathe\, filter the water we drink\, prevent erosion\, reduce flooding\, and serve as buffers against climate change. Forests also produce a variety of products used by people\, including lumber\, paper\, food\, and medicine. \nWe invite Richland County K-12 students to create a poster illustrating why forests are important\, and how we can protect and conserve forests so they will be with us always. \nEligibility\nRichland County students in grades K-12 should submit their posters to the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District for local judging by Friday\, April 12\, 2024. Students in other counties in SC should contact their local conservation district for entry deadlines and details. \nRules\n\nPosters MUST be 14”x 22”. We can provide up to 24 sheets of 14”x22” poster paper per school; contact Chanda Cooper at cooper.chanda@richlandcountysc.gov to request supplies.\nAny media may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect\, including paint\, marker\, ink\, crayon\, charcoal\, colored pencil\, stickers\, collage\, wallpaper\, magazines\, photos\, digitally-designed graphics or flat objects found in nature.\nPosters should be packaged so they remain flat when sent for judging.\nAll posters must be created by an individual student rather than a team of students.\nThe 2024 contest topic (May the Forest Be With You Always) must be on the poster.\nAttach a signed entry form to the back of the poster. Student or school names must not appear on the front of the poster.\nEntry must be contestant’s original creation and may not be traced from photographs or other artists’ published works.\n\nEvaluation\nPosters will be evaluated by grade level according to the following criteria: \n\nConservation Message: poster illustrates why forests are important and/or how we can conserve forests.  (50%)\nVisual Effectiveness: poster attracts attention\, uses colors and white space effectively\, is easy to read\, is neat\, and makes good use of colors and shading. (30%)\nOriginality (10%)\nOverall Appeal (10%)\n\nSubmission\nPosters completed by Richland County students should be delivered to the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District by Friday\, April 12\, 2024. Posters may be dropped off in person or mailed to 2020 Hampton Street\, Room 3063A\, Columbia\, SC 29204. Posters should be packaged to remain flat when sent for judging. \nCompetition Progression and Awards\nRichland County winners will progress to the state competition in Fall 2024; state winners will progress to the national competition in Winter 2024. Cash prizes will be awarded at each level. \n\nCounty Competition: $25 prizes will be awarded to winning posters in each of five grade level categories. Cash prizes are sponsored by the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District.\nState Competition: $50 prizes will be awarded to winning posters in each of five grade level categories. Cash prizes are sponsored by the SC Association of Conservation Districts.\nNational Competition: First place prizes in each grade level category will receive $200; second place posters will receive $150; third place posters will receive $100. Cash prizes are sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts Auxiliary\, the Country Store at the NACD Annual Meeting\, and individual donors.

SUMMARY:National Wind Energy Art Contest
DESCRIPTION:National Wind Energy Art Contest\nby KidWind & US Dept of Energy\nFriday\, March 22nd @ 1pm\nFREE — K-8\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City event. \nKidWind with the support of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Energy Technologies Office calls upon students in kindergarten through 8th grade from around the nation to create artwork about the theme Beautiful Wind Energy. Two winners from each grade will receive $200 and the chance to show their work at the nation’s annual CLEANPOWER 2024 conference in Minneapolis\, Minnesota May 5–8\, 2024 alongside the World KidWind Challenge. Winning artwork may also be curated at the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington D.C.\, where thousands of energy officials pass by daily. All work must be submitted through the online form linked below by 12pm CST March 22\, 2024. Early submissions are encouraged and may be temporarily displayed on this webpage. \n\nThis free art contest is for students in kindergarten through 8th grade.\nArtwork should be created on Tabloid 11”x17” paper\, displayed horizontally or vertically\, and focus on the competition theme: Beautiful Wind Energy. K-3 students may use the optional 8.5”x11” drawing template found here.\nOnly one submission per student\nOriginal artwork only\nNo digitally created artwork will be accepted\nDrawing and painting in any media is accepted (pencil\, crayon\, markers\, watercolor\, acrylic\, etc)\nUse of drawing and painting mediums together is accepted\nA teacher\, coach\, parent or guardian must fill out the form linked below and provide contact information.
