SUMMARY:Handicraft Pop-up Fair
DESCRIPTION:Handicraft Pop-up Fair\nBy Local Homeschoolers\nMonday\, March 18 at 10:30 am\nFREE — All Ages\nNote: this is NOT a Cola City event. Contact the event coordinator on Facebook for more information \nLocation: Irmo Community Park\, 7507 Eastview Drive Irmo\, SC 29063\nHomeschool handicraft fair for homeschoolers to display items they’ve made. They can sell\, barter and trade with other homeschoolers. \nYou are invited to this biannual handicraft fair with local area homeschoolers. Come and enjoy a day at the park while participating or supporting our homeschooling students. There are walking and biking trails\, a play area\, picnic tables and many options for a day of nature study. \nThe Homeschool Handicraft Fair is a local event to inspire and cultivate the art of homemade handicrafts. It is an opportunity for children to display their craftsmanship and beauty and also an opportunity to sell their creations if they so desire. \nPlease keep in mind that those who are participating are also supporting other fellow families. We have observed in past fairs that pricing under $10.00 gives the children more opportunity to sell and barter. It also gives all those involved more opportunities to support and purchase. If your child/ren have items that they would like to price over this amount\, please help them understand that their work is valued and surely admired\, but it may limit their sales . \nAnyone is welcome to participate and invite friends and family to come and browse . There is no fee for participation. All items must be hand made by the children. Selling and bartering are welcome and optional. It is up to each child how they would like to display their handicrafts – some lay down a mat\, others come up with creative displays. Set up will begin at 10:00am and visitors are welcome from 10:30am. \nREGISTER for a SPACE

SUMMARY:Marionette Theater
DESCRIPTION:Tortoise & the Hare\nBy Columbia Marionette Theater\nFriday\, April 5 at 10 am\nFREE — All Ages/Families\n\nNote: This is NOT a Cola City Event. Contact Richland Library: Main/Downtown for more information \nColumbia Marionette Theatre uses short-strung marionettes\, and a wide variety of creative rod puppets to bring The Tortoise and the Hare to life. \n\nThe race is on! The speedy Hare is confident that he can beat the slowly Tortoise in a race across the forest. But as this classic Aesop’s Fable has taught us for thousands of years… “Slow and Steady wins the race”. Oral presentations on book studies and literary elements. \n\nHere’s an idea: Shakespeare! Your student can:\n*tell us about one or more of his plays or poems\n*present a short scene from a play\n*read or recite a poem\n*dress as Shakespeare and tell us what his life was really like\n*research and report on the controversy of “who was the REAL Shakespeare”\n*tell us about some of the hundreds of words and phrases coined by the Bard himself!\n\n\nShakespeare was born in April\, let’s celebrate!\n\n\n\nProjects can be something you completed previously or something you prepare especially for this purpose. Siblings can present together…or prepare individual presentations of their own. Either way is fine. We recommend projects that are hands-on\, interactive demonstrations or have samples\, hand-outs\, give-aways. \nTables are provided\, but you can bring your own table for your display. Set up from (10 am-10:20 am). Presentation shifts will begin at 10:30 am \nPresentation format: The presenters get to tell about their project several times\, not just a one-time show-n-tell as participants meander and mingle. It’s also very relaxed style of presenting one-on-one\, rather than the formal “speech”. \nOpen to all homeschoolers\, all ages!  \nTo RSVP as a presenter or just to attendee/learn\, contact Kimberly Kelley: thinkingkids@gmail.com
