Watch as brightly decorated boats parade by decked out for the season\, enjoy Christmas carols (have your phone or flashlight ready for “Silent Night”)\, and a fireworks finale. Pack your family\, friends\, and a picnic\, and join us on December 2 at Lake Murray! \n\nEvent details & Information:\n– Gates open at 4:30 PM and the Boat Parade will begin at 6:00 PM.\n– Gates will remain open until the park reaches a 300-vehicle capacity. You are encouraged to come early to ensure a space and exercise patience and courtesy throughout the evening.\n– Please leave your pets at home\, there are no animals allowed in this park.\n– Parade route: Participants will line up at Jake’s Landing and parade over to the Lexington Park Site. The fireworks barge will be between the towers and the park site with a buffer zone for safety.\n– The park will close after the fireworks finale.

Register below. \nCome for this ranger-led lesson on forest conservation\, led by Ranger Beth Foley. Meet at Harbison State Forest Education Center 5500 Broad River Road Columbia\, SC 29212. Parking is free for this event. \nThe program is geared for 6th grade and up level\, but all ages are welcome to participate. Families with younger siblings can listen in and tag along or stroll the path at your own pace. \nProgram: Survival in the Forest\nStudents will learn how plants and animals survive in the forest. They will participate in an activity called “Every Tree for Itself” where they will become trees that must collect the basic resources needed to survive. Students will also become deer that need to acquire the four habitat components needed in a forest ecosystem. \nLocation Street Address: 5600 Broad River Road  \nTurn in at the sign for Harbison State Forest\, not the SC Forestry Commission headquarters which is next door at 5500 Broad River Road. To reach the Environmental Education Center\, continue past the first parking lot and bear left through the wooden gate onto a gravel road. Take the first right (at the closed metal gate) onto another gravel road. The Education Center is a log cabin building at the top of the hill on the left. Great for gifts or as a commemorative ornament to keep. All supplies included. And card making station will also be available. \nThe project will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Come and go anytime\, or hang out to socialize with others. We will set up several project stations for participants to rotate out and make room for others. The group will discuss the different taxes and events that led to America wanting to declare independence and end by asking\, should we sign the Declaration of Independence? Participants will learn about pollinators important role in nature. Then\, we’ll create a pollinator nest to help restore natural habitat for our pollinator friends. Make-it-Take-it–all supplies included! \nAges: All ages can participate (but younger participants may need parental assistance).\nLocation: Harbison State Forest\, 5600 Broad River Road\nFacilitated by: Park Rangers\, Beth Foley and David Jenkins\nTime: Wednesday February 7 from 1-3 pm\nCost: $3/participant \nMake-it-Take-it–all supplies are included. But\, please bring loppers/pruning tools if you have any. \nParking fee is waived for this workshop: Turn in at the sign for Harbison State Forest\, not the SC Forestry Commission headquarters which is next door at 5500 Broad River Road. Contact Battle of Aiken for more information and reservations.  \nSince 1995\, thousands of school children have traveled to the Battle of Aiken Park (1210 Powell Pond Rd. off 1-20 exit\, Aiken SC) for the annual School Field Trip Day held the Friday\, after President’s Day\, each February. Students go through a living history program that makes history come alive!\n\nAll public schools\, private schools\, and home schools are invited to attend this event which is appropriate for all ages. The educational program is believed to be the largest attended single day field trip in the state.\n\nThanks to our generous sponsors\, the field trip will have no costs to schools and is free of charge to students and teachers.\n\nAdmission: Free\nTime: Gates open at 8:30 A.M. and close at 3:00 P. M. Presentations begin at 9 A. M. There is no minimum or maximum time requirement. Most schools spend five hours at the site.\nWhen: Friday morning prior to the annual Battle of Aiken reenactment.\nFood: Students are welcome to bring box lunches. Food and soft drinks are available for purchase at our concessions.\nWhat to Bring: Warm clothing\, umbrella\, jacket\, cap\, comfortable walking shoes\, and a camera.\nSouvenirs: Some historical-based souvenirs and books will be available for purchase. \n
